Pregnancy Help Center

History

In 1990 a group of people with a common interest to reach out and assist young women with unplanned pregnancies formed The Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport along with the support and assistance of First Baptist Church of Lake Jackson. The HOPE program began in 1998. These classes (Help Offered in a Pregnancy Experience) were designed to help families develop the skills of parenting, new born care, and childbirth. God's hand of blessing was again evident when, in 2004, a local couple donated an ultrasound machine to the PHC. In 2007 the PHC purchased an 8 bedroom, 5 bath home on 9 acres to house homeless pregnant women. From 2008-2016, 47 women called Safe Haven home. In the past 30 years, The Pregnancy Help Center has enjoyed the incredible privilege of making a difference in over 46,500 lives that are broken and confused. Today approximately 68 churches from many different denominations provide monetary support. There are now 5 paid staff members and 100+ volunteers.

Specialties

The Pregnancy Help Center of Brazosport was formed and began operating from a small rented space located at 202 Dixie Drive in Lake Jackson. During the first few years the number of young women who came for help steadily increased and the number of people and churches who desired to help them also increased. Eventually it became necessary to add two paid staff members to assist the director. During the first eight years help was provided through one on one counseling with an interested individual with a compassionate heart. Practical assistance was provided in terms of diapers, formula, and baby food. Pregnancy Help Center Services: * Free Services available through the PHC include: Confidential pregnancy test by appointment * Maternity apparel - sizes petite through extra large, casual as well as dress * Baby apparel - sizes newborn - 2T, boy and girl, summer and winter * Educational Classes - Pregnancy, Childbirth, Parenting & Personal Growth
