Established in 1946, Mexia State School serves more than 500 people with mental disabilities. The school is operated by the Texas Department of Aging and Disability Services. The facility includes a gymnasium, chapel, swimming pool, barbershop, aquatics and recreational activity center and residential units. It also has an in-house pharmacy and laboratory.
