Madera Canyon Hiking Trail
The Nature Conservancy's Davis Mountains Preserve in Fort Davis, Texas, is a rugged yet fragile sky-island refuge surrounded by the vast West Texas desert landscape. With a 30-year effort to protect tracts of land, TNC has preserved nearly 110,000 acres of the Davis Mountains region, including the 32,844-acre Davis Mountains Preserve.
Home to diverse plant and wildlife species, the Davis Mountains rise more than 8,300 feet above sea level, providing crucial habitat for rare aquatic species and sensitive wildlife like the Rivoli's hummingbird. This unique ecosystem offers refuge for species unable to survive in the harsh desert conditions below, making conservation efforts more important than ever in preserving this Texas treasure for future generations.
