John Z. Zhao, MD, is a fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon focused on foot and ankle surgery. His clinical interests are reconstructive surgery, fracture care, arthroscopic surgery, and total ankle replacement. He utilizes evidence-based medicine to optimize operative and nonoperative care for all foot and ankle pathologies. He is particularly interested in advancing minimally invasive techniques, using smaller incisions than traditional open techniques to accomplish the same surgical goals, potentially improve patient outcomes, decrease postoperative pain, and reduce scarring. Zhao is also an assistant professor in the Department of Orthopedic Surgery at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston. He received his medical degree from Harvard Medical School in 2017. He remained in Boston for five years of orthopedic residency training at the Harvard Combined Orthopedic Residency Program, completed in 2022. Following his residency, Zhao completed a one-year subspecialty foot and ankle surgery fellowship in 2023 at Campbell Clinic Orthopedics in Memphis, Tennessee. He is a member of the American Academy of Orthopedic Surgeons and the American Orthopedic Foot and Ankle Society. Outside of work, he enjoys sports, exercise, and travel.

Jessica L Traver , MD

Jessica Traver, MD, treats a wide variety of pediatric orthopedic and sports medicine disorders. She is dual fellowship trained in both pediatric orthopedic surgery and orthopedic sports medicine. Dr. Traver is a native Houstonian and grew up in Spring, Texas, where she was an avid soccer player for Challenge Soccer Club. She received her undergraduate degree from Tulane University in New Orleans as a NCAA Division I women’s soccer player and went on to be inducted into the Tulane Athletic Hall of Fame in 2015. Her experience as an elite athlete gives her unique perspective on treating young athletes and the importance of an expeditious, safe return-to-sport. She returned to Texas to attend medical school at UTHealth. She completed both her internship and residency at Saint Louis University Hospital in St. Louis, Missouri. Dr. Traver went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric orthopedic surgery at Children’s Hospital Colorado. Afterwards, she completed second fellowship in Sports Medicine at the prestigious Harvard University/Boston Children’s Hospital where she served as a team physician to University of Massachusetts Boston and for the 2019 Boston Marathon.
