History

Joe Diffie started his commercial compost hauling career as a Co-Director at Ecology Action. In 2011 he administered the City of Austin's first compost hauling pilot program. He eventually formed Joe's Organics in 2012, with the mission of diverting organic urban food waste from landfills and recycling it into a valuable resource. Today, Joe's Organics collects over three tons of waste each week from over 50 restaurants and sustainable businesses in the Austin area. Over the last several years, over 200 tons of food waste have been diverted from landfills! Now, Joe's Organics uses that compost to grow local and fresh microgreens and other specialty produce. It's a super local system that diverts waste from the landfills and instead produces food all within Austin city limits.

Specialties

Joe's Organics specializes in microgreen, edible flower production, and licensed compost hauling. We collect food waste from local Austin restaurants, compost it, and recycle the processed compost to grow delicious microgreens and edible flowers. You can find our produce in many of Austin's top restaurants, or on weekends at the Lakeline and Mueller Farmer's Markets! We like to think we're the tastiest solution to food waste in Austin. Get on board with Austin's composting ordinance with us!

My cat LOVES Joes Microgreens grass. It lasts a long time and fits perfectly on the windowsill.
