The mission of Neighborhood Housing Services ( NHS ) of San Antonio is "Building Successful Families and Communities Through Housing Opportunities." Over the last 16 years, NHS has built almost 300 new homes, rehabbed over 100 existing homes and has processed than 1, 200 loans totaling more than $12 million. Over the same period of time, NHS's bank partners have provided more than $25 million in loans. As an organization, our goal is to strive to meet our maximum capabilities everyday in order to provide efficient, adequate services and quality affordable housing to each client. We offer great home ownership opportunities for families making $23, 000 to $66, 000 per year with as little as $500.00 ( including closing costs ) and up to 2 percent of the sales price. We offer some of the best financing around for qualified borrowers. The model homes that NHS builds from the ground up feature an appliance package. The appliance package includes: refrigerator, stove, garbage disposal and washer/dryer hookups. Also, the homes built from the ground up are pre-wired for cable." In some models, we offer a few custom tailored features. Our homes are energy efficient and come with central heat and air. Most units have a 10-year home buyer warranty. We hold a designation as a green builder and have built several homes at Green Building II level. NHS is a private non-profit corporation organized under state laws, and has an IRS 501 c ( 3 ) designation. The corporation is a locally controlled organization with special lending and affordable housing development as its main focus. NHS is a CHDO, member of the national Neighborhood Reinvestment Corporation's NeighborWorks network, and a Community Development Finance Institute. NHS opened its Home Ownership Center in 1999 and a Home Maintenance Center in 2003. With public-private partnerships comprised of neighborhood residents, area business leaders, and government representatives, NHS serves as a catalyst to reverse the trend of decline in disinvested areas of the City and County.
