High School for the Performing and Visual Arts, founded in 1971, is governed by the Houston Independent School District. The school is fully accredited by the state of Texas, and offers the same academic curriculum and graduation requirements as all the district s other high schools. It additionally offers study of various arts, including dance, instrumental and vocal music, and theatre and visual arts.
