History

The Houston Children's Chorus was founded in 1989 by Stephen H. Roddy. Over 100 children per year are involved in this community-wide choral program. Members of The Chorus represent all ethnic and socio-economic backgrounds and come from the public school districts, private schools and home school environments of the metropolitan Houston area. We nclude boys and girls in 2nd through 8th grade. The Houston Children's Chorus has performed all around the world. Over the years, Chorus groups have toured Russia, England, Scotland and Italy in Europe. In Asia, they have visited Hong Kong, Japan, China and Taiwan. Other countries they have toured include New Zealand and Mexico. Domestically, the Chorus has performed several times at Carnegie Hall in New York City and toured a number of states. Most recently, the students toured New England, performing in Boston, Maine, New York and the Poconos in Pennsylvania.

Specialties

Education is the primary purpose of The Chorus. Its goal is to teach children to achieve high artistic standards through choral singing and performance.
