History
HomeBase's lumber, home improvement and hardware business was originally established in 1917, but our roots can be traced back all the way to 1873 when brothers Hans and John Dierks went into the lumber business in Walnut, Iowa. Although this business was not an initial success, the lumber business entered into my family's blood and this became our family's business. In 1917, Robert Sutherland and his wife, Mae Dierks, started the first Sutherlands in Durant, Oklahoma. They sold materials for house patterns, or blueprints as we call them today.
