Harris Family Criminal Law Division

The Courts Division of Harris County s Sheriff s Office is responsible for the security of more than 80 courts in four different facilities in Harris County in Texas. Over 4,000 inmates are transferred to and from the different courts each week. The Courts Division of Harris County s Sheriff s Office also insures the safety and protection of more than 150,000 jurors each year. The division has a staff of over 175 professional certified sheriff s office deputies. Harris County Sheriff's Department was founded in 1837 and is one of the oldest law enforcement agencies in Texas. The department is owned by the government of Harris County in Texas.

The Harris County Sheriff's Office is a community-oriented police agency. The department operates a record bureau that provides information about incident reports, restraining orders, fingerprinting, arrests, accidents and firearm permits. The Harris County Sheriff's Office offers the COPS in Schools program to educational facilities in the area. It operates a patrol division that participates in safety programs for schools, neighborhood watch groups and community outreach centers. It has an enhanced community safety team that uses proactive patrol techniques and community policing to provide visible police presence to deter crime, respond to emergency calls and assist other units within the department when necessary. The Harris County Sheriff s Office Department is a full-service law enforcement agency that prevents crime, protects residents lives and their property, suppresses criminal activity, and apprehends criminal offenders. It undertakes cases related to juvenile crime, sexual offense, drug abuse and domestic violence. The Harris County Sheriff s Office maintains an Emergency Response Team (ERT) that deals with dangerous situations, including high-risk warrant arrests and explosive devices, as well as heavily armed criminals and barricaded persons. The office also has an honor guard that marches in parades, conducts funerals for officers and their family members, and attends wakes and funerals for area officers killed in the line of duty.
