Cardiologist Steven E. Daniels, MD, FACC is Board Certified in Cardiology and Interventional Cardiology. He practices with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants. Dr. Daniels graduated at the top of his class from a small, rural high school in Virginia, wanting to become either a lawyer or a physician. Thanks to a guidance counselor who veered him away from a career in law, and a mother who was a nurse, Dr. Daniels followed the path better suited to his personality and interests. He graduated summa cum laude from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, North Carolina with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry. He studied medicine at the Medical College of Virginia in Richmond, Virginia, and completed his internship and residency in internal medicine and his fellowship in Cardiology at Baylor College of Medicine and Affiliated Hospitals in Houston, Texas. Then, as the sole fellow who went to the Veteran's Administration to train in interventional cardiology, Dr. Daniels had a unique opportunity to perform angioplasties on his own every day. Recruited to join a practice in McAllen, Texas, Dr. Daniels, again, had the opportunity to perform a large number of cardiac interventions at this early stage in his career. After three years in McAllen, Dr. Daniels joined a small private practice in San Antonio, Texas, until he moved to South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants in early 2013. Dr. Daniels belongs to a number of professional organizations including the American College of Cardiology, Texas Medical Association, Bexar County Medical Society and the American Heart Association. He sees patients in the San Antonio and Kerrville offices as well as Methodist Hospital | Texsan.

Jose A. Perez, MD, FACC, FACA is Board Certified in Cardiology and practices with South Texas Cardiovascular Consultants. Dr. Perez's interest in cardiology took root in his teenage years when, as a high school student in San Antonio, he had the unusual opportunity to work with cardiologists at Brooks Air Force Base in the Aerospace School of Medicine. Cardiology soon became his consuming passion and calling in life. Today, Dr. Perez is particularly interested in the ever-evolving field of Interventional Cardiology. In addition to treating blockages of coronary arteries, Dr. Perez also utilizes balloons and stents to open blocked arteries and improve circulation to the legs, kidneys, carotids and other peripheral arteries. His expertise in interventional procedures has also expanded into the area of structural heart disease where, with the same technology used for opening blocked arteries, heart defects like patent foramen ovale, atrial septal defects and valve defects can be repaired with a minimally-invasive, percutaneous procedure. Despite the promise and the hope for improved quality of life that these therapies offer, Dr. Perez cautions his patients that a successful intervention does not mean that they are healed. "Atherosclerosis is generally an ongoing, chronic process. It demands very close attention and follow-up. Future treatment will usually be necessary, whether it is for the same blockage area or a new one, but modifying your risk factors can have a significant effect on the progression of atherosclerosis and the eventual recurrence of blockages."
