Rita Tsai, MD - Seton Family of Doctors

Dr. Tsai is a transplant to the Austin area from the Midwest. She moved to Texas to escape the snow in 2009 (where it promptly snowed for the first time in years!). She enjoys traveling in her free time, and she recently participated in medical volunteer work on trips to Guatemala and Haiti. My Passion for Healthcare I am the first physician in my family, but my mom was a nurse for many years, and I think she was the person who first stimulated my interest in medicine. I was always fascinated by visits to the hospital, and I was never grossed out by medical stories shared over the dinner table the way my brother was. I find working in women's health rewarding because it allows me to care for such a wide range of patients, from teenagers, to pregnant mothers, to women undergoing the changes of menopause. I also enjoy that the field allows me the opportunity to treat patients both medically and surgically. My Clinical Focus I see a wide variety of OB/GYN patients, from women needing prenatal care to women requiring evaluation and treatment for abnormal bleeding. Education of my patients is very important to me, and my goal for every patient is that they understand everything that occurred during a visit. The majority of my time is spent as teaching faculty for doctors in residency training. Given that I limit the number of patients I see individually so that I can continue teaching, I feel that I have the opportunity to form a deeper physician-patient relationship with the patients who come to see me.
