Criminal Justice Department

The Texas Department of Criminal Justice, also known as TDCJ, manages offenders in state prisons and private correctional facilities that contract with the department. It provides funding options and an oversight of community supervision. The department also supervises offenders released from prison on parole or mandatory supervision. Its community justice assistance division focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders and serves the victims of those offenders. The department s facilities division handles facility planning, design, construction and maintenance, as well as environmental quality assurance and compliance. The Texas Department of Criminal Justice also serves offenders with medical or mental impairments. Additionally, it offers adult education and life decisions programs.
