Anne H. Dougherty, MD, is a board-certified and fellowship-trained cardiology and electrophysiology specialist. Her clinical and research interests are the management and treatment of cardiac arrhythmias. Dougherty is also a professor in the Division of Cardiovascular Medicine at McGovern Medical School at UTHealth Houston, where she holds The ten Broeke Family Foundation Professor. She is the recipient of many honors and awards, including Top Doctor by US News and World Report in 2011, Outstanding Achievement in Clinical Service at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1996, the 1997 YWCA Outstanding Women of Achievement — Medicine, Science, and Technology Award, and the American Heart Association’s Paul Dudley White Award, 1997-1998. She is the past president of the Houston Cardiology Society and the Houston Electrophysiology Society. Long an advocate of responsible clinical research and the rights and welfare of human research participants, Dougherty has promoted the appropriate representation of women in clinical research trials. She has been the executive chair of the Committee for the Protection of Human Subjects since 2004. In 2011, she assumed the role of institutional official and vice president of the Human Research Protection Programs at UTHealth Houston.

He has lectured and conducted workshops worldwide, which have provided integral training for cardiovascular surgeons. He is a fellow of The American College of Surgeons and a member of the American Association for Thoracic Surgeons, the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, the Michael E. DeBakey International Surgical Society, the Cardiothoracic Surgery Network, the Southern Thoracic Surgical Association, and the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Thoracic Surgery. Estrera is married and has three children.
