Tennessee Valley Authority

The Tennessee Valley Authority, also known as TVA, is a federal corporation that provides energy, environment and economic development services. It is one of the largest public power companies in the United States. The corporation also operates fossil fuel, nuclear and hydropower plants. Founded in 1933, the Tennessee Valley Authority offers wholesale power to more than 150 municipal and cooperative power distributors. It provides services in Mississippi, Kentucky, Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina and Virginia. The corporation additionally offers support for education, culture and service projects. The Tennessee Valley Authority develops reservoir land management plans. It serves over nine million residents.
