History

We began as a company called Mountain Tours & Merchandise. We sold hiking equipment and offered tours to guests. The idea was to book a hike and buy your supplies in the same place. We did not take into consideration the small margins of the retail world however and after only a few short months we changed our game plan. We loved sharing our stories and doing tours for folks so we decided to change our name to reflect our new focus. Tennessee Mountain Tours was created not only to show guests the wonderful sights in the Smokies but to also share our real local stories. The kind of stories you can't read in books. The kind that are passed down from the old timers to the youngsters, from father to son, and mother to daughter.

Would you ever watch a movie with the sound turn off? Then why would you see the sights without a guide? Seeing the sights without a real guide is like watching a movie without any sound. You might be able to see it but you have no idea what its all about. If you have a guide its like having the sound turned on, you get the full story. People buy books with words in them they don't buy books with only photos in them. Its because the story is the most important part. We take folks on bus tours to visit the most interesting and significant places in the Smokies. Our tours are fully narrated and give you stories that have been passed down for generations. We are owned and operated by 7th generation locals who have roots going back over 215 years to the very first family to settle in the area now named Gatlinburg. We are the story tellers, we keep the history alive and we pass it on to great folks like you.
