Lower School at St. Mary's is for girls in grades first through fifth. Our goal in the elementary grades is to help each girl become a capable, confident, and caring child. We value the joys of childhood, and we believe that gentleness and kindness are learned behaviors best taught through modeling.Using creative problem solving skills, St. Marys Lower School program is designed to help equip each student with the ability to think critically, use technology and design tools, and develop the confidence to value the wisdom and flexibility that making mistakes provides. St. Marys promotes individualized learning and encourages elementary students to learn in community while discovering unique ways to explore, experiment, and excel. Our school's weekly Chapel service and on-going character education program, fondly called A Bridge to Caring, not only nurtures our students spiritually, but allows students to reach beyond themselves to discover the importance of respect, kindness, courage, thankfulness, honesty, and cooperation. These timeless values are woven into our academic curriculum on a daily basis, creating a learning environment that honors the whole child.Core Curriculum Subjects Math Reading and Language Arts Science Social Studies/GeographySpecial Subjects Art celebrates each girls individuality and fosters self-expression and creativity through the design process. Ballet and Creative Movement fosters creative expression by immersing students in classical ballet stories through role playing, scene reenactments, and both choreographed and improvised movement. The Lower School Library is a center of inquiry where information literacy skills are integrated with classroom content. Curriculum emphasizes the development of research skills, the discovery of the joy of reading, and the promotion of lifelong learning. In keeping with our Episcopal tradition, Religion classes in St. Mary's Lower School explore stories from the Old and New Testaments, while encouraging respect for others' beliefs and teaching the values that unite us. Spanish vocabulary and grammar are presented kinesthetically, aurally, verbally, visually, and literally to grades one through four. Foreign language involves the learner in a technique called TPR, Total Physical Response. Music uses the developmentally appropriate Orff Schulwerk approach and includes choral experiences. Physical Education enhances coordination, strength, self-control, and cooperation. Robotics not only creates an opportunity for students to learn how to code, but it also enhances skills in leadership, community involvement, communicating across different technology platforms, and maybe even finding a passion for STEM related subjects.

Our Middle School is for girls in grades sixth through eighth. During these years, our students are beginning to develop into confident, intellectual young women. At the same time, they do so with the vibrancy and enthusiasm of young girls. An extremely dedicated faculty work hard each day to challenge our students to become the readers, writers and thinkers, the budding artists, scientists, and historians they will need to be for the Upper School and beyond.Yet while we take what we do seriously, we don't take ourselves too seriously. Middle School, after all, should be a time of opportunity. A time to try a new sport. To learn how to play an instrument. To forge friendships which can last a lifetime.By the time our girls are ready to move on, they have an inkling of who they are as young adults and what passions they wish to pursue in the years ahead. Our Upper School is for girls in grades ninth through twelfth. In keeping with the mission of St. Mary's, the Upper School strives to provide a superior educational experience for our girls while encouraging and enabling each girl to reach her individual potential. Our dedicated faculty recognizes and respects the unique ways in which girls learn best, teaching an academically rigorous curriculum while simultaneously going beyond the classroom walls to provide "real life" experiences. As they become lifelong learners, the students are encouraged to think critically, creatively, and independently. We feel strongly that each girls program of study is as unique as she is. Every year, we meet one-on-one with each girl and her family to discuss course options that best fit her interests, goals, and extracurricular life. All students must enroll in 5 academic subjects that meet the requirements for each grade, but they also have the opportunity to add a wide-range of non-academic and elective courses, both online and face-to-face. Our goal is to create a program of study that provides the appropriate level of challenge for each girl.As a result of the extensive academic, athletic, artistic, and community-service opportunities that are available, our students become confident leaders who have a positive influence on their community.Because St. Marys is a college preparatory school, all of our courses are designed to prepare students for college. Although these courses reflect the rigorous curricular requirements for students entering college today, they are taught at appropriate developmental levels for high school students.
