Dr. Mayfield's honors and awards include Alpha Omega Alpha and Phi Kappa Phi from the University of Mississippi, Gamma Beta Phi, and Phi Eta Sigma at Vanderbilt University. He was a 1990 National Merit Finalist. Dr. Mayfield was a member of the Carl G. Evers Society at the University of Mississippi where he established a Student/Faculty Mentor Program, and worked on a Professor Awards Banquet, Course Evaluation Protocols, and organized Primary Care Day for Medical Students. He has been a member of the Pharmacology Liaison Committee, the American Medical Association, and the Christian Medical/Dental Association Surgery Committee at The University of South Alabama.
