Settlers first arrived in the 1800's and began to build homes and operate businesses. The golden age of Clifton existed during the early 1900's, as the steamboat was king and Clifton was an important river port town. As America changed its modes of transportation and the river landing became less important, a gradual decline hit the area. In the 1990's Clifton saw a rebirth. As tourists visit Clifton, the natural beauty of the area awes them. Pillow Street Bed and Breakfast is a block from the river and a short distance from Main Street.
