Zinifex is one of the world s largest integrated zinc and lead companies. Zinifex sells a range of zinc metal, lead metal and associated alloys in 20 countries. The company is also involved in the smelting business, operating a zinc smelting facility in Clarksville, Tenn. The Clarksville smelter is located southwest of Clarksville, Tennessee and is the smallest of Zinifex s smelting facilities, producing 110,000 tonnes of SHG and CGG zinc metal per year. It also produces cadmium and sulphuric acid. The Clarksville facility was commissioned in 1978 by Union Miniere, making it one of the newest zinc smelters in the world. The facility is surrounded by more than 1,400 acres of land owned by Zinifex.
