The Public Works Department is one of the departments of the city of Chattanooga, Tenn. Its services include designing, construction and maintenance of the city; maintenance of sewer system and water system; collection and disposal of garbage; and recycling of household hazardous waste. It additionally deals with building inspections and code enforcement. The department s traffic engineering administration is responsible for the design of traffic signals, signs, street lights, parking meters and guardrails. Its office of inspection issues permits for building construction, electrical, plumbing, mechanical, gas and sign installation and is also responsible for enforcing zoning regulations. The department s storm water and technical information center deals with maintaining records of city projects.
