South Memphis Alliance (SMA) opened its doors in 2000 to help organize neighborhood associations in the urban communities of South Memphis. Over time we’ve expanded our services to serve youth in foster care and families in need. Despite our growth, we hold fast to our core belief that civic engagement is the bedrock of strong communities, and that strong communities promote stable families. Junior Achievement of Memphis and the Mid-South has been empowering K-12 students in Tennessee, Mississippi, and Arkansas since 1955, providing hands-on programs focused on entrepreneurship, work readiness, and financial literacy. With the support of education and community partners, as well as trained volunteers, JA helps over 20,000 students annually to develop the skills needed for economic success and a bright future. Through play-based learning and multimedia resources, JA's elementary programs lay the foundation for students' understanding of money, work, and community, while the middle and high school programs build on these concepts to prepare teens for their educational and professional endeavors.
