East River Electric Power Cooperative is a wholesale electric power supply cooperative that serves various municipal electric providers and other rural electric cooperatives. The cooperative serves more than 80,000 homes and businesses in South Dakota and western Minnesota. Founded in 1949, East River Electric Power Cooperative maintains various programs for rural electric system development and improvement. The cooperative, in partnership with its members, provides recruitment advertising, employee assistance and computer-based safety training services. Its Rural Electric Economic Development (REED) fund makes financial contributions to enhance job retention and improve rural infrastructure and development. East River Electric Power Cooperative is one of the founding members of the Touchstone Energy program.

In 2000 Intercounty Electric, Mitchell and Tri-County Electric, Plankinton consolidated to form Central Electric Cooperative. The cooperative has more than 40 employees and provides electrical service to over 4,500 consumer members. The company has access to more than 3,700-miles of overhead power lines, an excess of 590-miles of underground lines and over 18 electric substations. Some of the largest loads that the cooperative serves include the Plankinton School, National Foods, Dakota Pork, and the Hutterite Colonies. Its products inventory includes General Electric, LG and Amana appliances, heating, ventilation and air conditioning products, Marathon water heaters, and Electraflame fireplaces. Central Electric Cooperative is located in Mitchell, S.D.

Dakota Energy Cooperative Inc., a non-profit electric utility firm, provides a variety of power products and services to its members. Based in Huron, S.D., the cooperative offers a wide range of products including electric boilers, electric grills, heat pumps and water heaters. In addition, it provides various floor electric heating cables and a rental light program. Dakota Energy Cooperative Inc. also offers a wide range of customer services, such as free automated reading (AMR) system, load management, home energy audit and safety services. Its membership covers a range of residential, commercial, farm, business and industrial consumers in Beadle, Hand and Hyde counties. Dakota Energy Cooperative Inc. is an affiliate member of Touchstone Energy Cooperative.
