Garretson Fire Department
The Garretson Fire Department, established in 1896 and officially adopted in 1901, has a rich history of serving the community with dedication and resilience. Originally equipped with a hose cart, ladders, a water tank, and numerous pails, the department has evolved significantly over the years, including the acquisition of its first motorized apparatus in 1923.
Today, the department covers approximately 100 square miles across Minnehaha County, South Dakota, and Rock County, Minnesota, operating from its current station since 1986. The Garretson Fire Department maintains a fleet that includes one engine, one engine tender, one tender, one rescue unit, and one wildland grass rig, ensuring readiness to respond to various emergencies.
