Leslie Van Dyne, M.D., is a general surgeon specializing in trauma care at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital where she also serves as the Medical Director of General Surgery. She received her medical degree from the University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion, S.D. She completed her Surgical Residency at Mount Carmel Health Systems in Columbus, Ohio, and her Trauma Critical Care Fellowship at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland, Ohio. Dr. Van Dyne’s practice is focused primarily in the inpatient setting, working with acutely ill surgical patients. She has a passion for treating critically sick patients and received additional training for the treatment of ICU and complex trauma patients. Dr. Van Dyne approaches every patient as if they were one of her family members. She believes this mindset helps her to keep perspective on what is important. Outside of work, she and her husband enjoy exploring Rapid City and the Black Hills, as well as traveling to see new cities. She also collects houseplants and recharges by spending time with their blind dog, Boomer.

Shelly Smith is a Certified Nurse Practitioner specializing in gastroenterology at Monument Health in Rapid City. A proud graduate of Central High School and Black Hills State University, Shelly initially earned a double major in Mass Communications and Communication Art. After working in her field for a year, she realized she missed her calling in medicine. She earned her bachelor’s degree from Oakland University in Rochester, Michigan in 2007 and worked in both ER and ICU in a Level II Trauma Center in Pontiac, Michigan. She went on to complete her graduate degree in Family Nurse Practition studies in 2015. Shortly after graduation she returned to South Dakota and began her career in Inpatient Gastroenterology. Now with nearly a decade of experience in inpatient GI care, she transitioned to outpatient gastroenterology to continue her passion for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care. Outside of work, Shelly is a dedicated wife and mother who enjoys cheering on her kids at their sporting events. When she finds a rare moment of free time, she loves to travel, hike, bike and read.

Emily Duffy, M.D, is a Palliative Care Physician at Monument Health Rapid City Hospital. A Palliative Care Fellow and Internal Medicine Resident at University of Wisconsin Hospitals and Clinics in Madison, Dr. Duffy received a Doctor of Medicine at University of South Dakota Sanford School of Medicine in Vermillion. Dr. Duffy was an academic All-American and NAIAA ll College Women’s Golf Team Captain at Northwestern College of Orange City, Iowa, from which she graduated Summa Cum Laude as an Honors Scholar with a B.A in Biology and Chemistry.
