Center for Restorative Justice

The Center for Restorative Justice is a non-profit, volunteer organization based in Rapid City, SD. Established in 1997, their mission is to promote awareness of and facilitate Restorative Justice in South Dakota through education and partnerships in Restorative Justice processes. They arrange and conduct Restorative Justice Conferencing between victims of crime and offenders, as well as promote peacemaking through community and group Circles to schools, organizations, and Tribal entities.

Restorative justice allows individuals to speak directly with each other in a safe and respectful environment, discussing the impact of a crime or dispute on their lives and working towards mutually agreeable resolutions. By emphasizing the cooperation of offenders, victims, families, community, and the court, the Center for Restorative Justice aims to shift the way society thinks about and responds to crime, recognizing that crime damages people, communities, and relationships. Through their services and programs, they strive to hold offenders accountable, develop constructive competencies and habits, and improve the community and its safety.
