Originally named as Gold Hill Lode, Big Thunder Gold Mine is one of the safest gold production mine in the Keystones mining district, S.D. Founded in 1882, it contains various types of rocks, structures and minerals. The facility uses an induced polarization method to mine gold. It operates a museum that contains a selection of mining equipment. Big Thunder Gold Mine s museum features the replicas of a stamp mill, bell and jaw crushers, winches and blacksmith equipment. The museum also houses original ore bins and elevator equipment and tools. The facility provides a guide that contains information related to gold mining processes. It operates an online store that sells helmets, rock tumblers and gold pans. Big Thunder Gold Mine provides various discount tour packages for individuals and families.
