The Washington Light Infantry, located in Charleston, SC, is one of the nation's oldest militia units, founded in 1807. Named in honor of George Washington, it is the sole surviving volunteer corps from the city's preparations for a potential second war with Britain. Annually, on February 22, the Corps observes a military banquet in tribute to George Washington.
The Washington Light Infantry proudly preserves the Eutaw Flag, a relic from the Revolutionary War that once belonged to Colonel William Washington, a cousin of General George Washington. This historic flag is now in the possession of the Corps and serves as a symbol of their rich heritage and dedication to their military traditions.
