Founded in 1869, Claflin University is an independent, coeducational institution that is affiliated with the United Methodist Church. It offers a variety of academic programs to more than 1,800 students in it s over 40-acre facility. It offers master s degree in business education, biotechnology, management and education. Claflin University also offers bachelor s degrees in early childhood education, human performance and recreation, middle level education, art, history and sociology. Its Mass Communication Department provides classes in broadcast journalism, public relations, sound recording, and radio and television production. The university offers health, personal counseling, and career counseling and placement services. Additionally, it offers scholarships, grants and loans for students. It athletics department offers a variety of sports activities, such as football, softball, basketball, soccer and wrestling. Claflin University is located in Orangeburg, S.C.
