Dr. Suzanne Schwab is a Family Medicine Physician with board certifications in both Family Medicine and Addiction Medicine. She offers comprehensive primary care as well as specialized outpatient addiction medicine services. With over 25 years of experience, Dr. Schwab helps patients manage a variety of health conditions, including substance use disorders such as alcohol, opioid, and benzodiazepine addiction. In addition to her clinical work, Dr. Schwab teaches medical and psychology students about addiction treatment, diagnosis, and care. She is also involved in research focused on primary and rural healthcare and advocates for addiction-related issues both in South Carolina and Washington, DC. Dr. Schwab takes a holistic approach to patient care, addressing medical, psychological, and social factors. She provides addiction medicine assessments and treatment for substance use disorders, including medication-assisted treatments such as buprenorphine/naloxone and long-acting buprenorphine (Sublocade, Brixadi) injections, as well as Vivitrol. Dr. Schwab also offers comprehensive primary care with a focus on addiction care or addiction consult services only. In this role, he works under the leadership of MUSC's Chief Quality Officer to ensure that all patients at MUSC receive high quality healthcare services in an environment that is safe and patient centered.
