Preserving Our Southern Appalachian Music, Inc
Preserving Our Southern Appalachian Music, Inc (POSAM) is a non-profit organization based in Pickens, SC, dedicated to preserving and promoting the rich musical heritage of the Southern Appalachian region. Through their Young Appalachian Musicians (YAM) program, they offer small group instruction in traditional instruments, allowing children and adults to connect with their musical roots. POSAM also organizes the annual Winter Bluegrass Jubilee, featuring acclaimed bluegrass bands and showcasing the authentic sounds of the genre.
With a focus on community, family, and the outdoors, POSAM strives to pass on the love and appreciation for old-time mountain music in the small, rural town of Pickens. Their YAM programs provide educational and enjoyable musical experiences, while their Evening Music Program offers a range of classes, including jamming sessions, ukulele and dulcimer lessons, and soon, a clawhammer banjo class. Through their efforts, POSAM aims to preserve and celebrate the musical traditions that are an integral part of the Southern Appalachian culture.
