Advanced practice nursing was a natural fit for me, as I've always loved science and helping people. In addition, an early mentor, a doctor I worked with, inspired me to pursue a career in healthcare. Being bilingual - I'm fluent in Spanish - helps me communicate with a broad cross-section of the population. Since 2001, I've worked in outpatient settings with diverse populations. I care deeply about my patients and feel that listening to - and understanding - their concerns is crucial to providing them with the best care. I am a board-certified women's health NP with a special interest in high-risk pregnancy, obstetrics and preventive gynecology. I was born in Cuba and came to the U.S. as a child. I grew up in a Boston suburb and attended nursing school - and later NP school at MGH Institute of Health Professions in Boston before finally escaping New England winters by moving to South Carolina in 2017. I'm a proud board member of the South Carolina Nurse Retention Initiative, and a member of The Aassociation of Women's Health, Obstetric and Neonatal Nurses. I've been inducted into Sigma Theta Tau, the international honor society for nursing, and Iota Eta Pi Nursing Honor Society. I was honored to be a speaker/presenter for a national conference in Las Vegas in 2010. Presenting "Increasing Diversity in Nursing" to a national audience was entirely my pleasure. When not serving my patients, I enjoy spending time with my husband, adult children and precious grandkids. My hobbies include biking, pickleball and traveling with family.

I developed an interest in surgical procedures in medical school, but I wanted longer-term relationships with my patients than most surgeons typically have. My work in a women's shelter during my medical school years led me to want to help women specifically. Obstetrics and gynecology allowed me to care for patients throughout each season of their lives - and to provide surgical and procedural care when needed. \n For me, it's the best of two worlds. I treat my patients holistically and consider all aspects of their health - physical, mental, emotional - in order to optimize their gynecological and obstetrical health. \n My patients appreciate that I stay current on advancements in my field. For instance, I've been trained on - and regularly use - the da Vinci robot for minimally invasive procedures. I've been performing robot-assisted surgery since 2012. Being a member of both the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists as well as the American College of Osteopathic Obstetricians and Gynecologists helps me stay up to date on the latest advancements in obstetrics and gynecology. \n I've been fortunate to be involved in leading-edge clinical trials. When I practiced in Tennessee, I participated in clinical trials involving oral GnRH receptor agonists in the treatment of endometriosis and fibroids. These treatments have allowed us to provide more options for these patients with less side effects and to potentially avoid surgery. \n My husband, Jacob, and I have known each other since childhood. Our son keeps us busy with travel soccer. When not at the soccer field, we enjoy traveling and fishing as a family. I enjoy reading, water-related activities and marine biology - an interest that's increased since relocating to the South Carolina coast in 2020.
