Dr. Baron Short completed his BS in biology from the University of South Carolina Honors College in 1996 and his M.D. from the Medical University of South Carolina in 2001. In 2006 he finished his dual residency in internal medicine and psychiatry at MUSC and joined the faculty as assistant professor with dual appointments in the Departments of Internal Medicine and the Institute of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. His clinical and research interests include medical illnesses, co-morbid mood disorders, and brain stimulation technologies. He started the Master's of Science in Clinical Research with the intent of pursuing clinical translational work of novel brain stimulation techniques for the treatment of depression and depressive symptomatology found in oncological, rheumatological and cardiovascular diseases.

A.J. Manett completed his B.S. in Chemistry-Engineering from Washington and Lee University in 2005 and his M.D. from the University of Toledo in 2009. In 2013, he completed a residency in Psychiatry at MUSC and served as Chief Resident. In 2014, he completed a fellowship in Addiction Psychiatry at MUSC. Upon completion of training, he began working with the South Carolina Department of Mental Health at the Charleston-Dorchester Mental Health Center. He served as a Clinical Assistant Professor for the MUSC Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences from 2014 until 2016, where he supervised residents and taught medical students. In 2016, he returned to MUSC to join the faculty as an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry in the Brain Stimulation Laboratory Division in the Department of Psychiatry. As a member of the Brain Stimulation team, he provides a variety of brain stimulation treatments for neuropsychiatric disorders such as treatment-resistant depression. These treatments include electroconvulsive therapy (ECT) and transcranial magnetic stimulation (TMS). He also leads an inpatient treatment team at the Institute of Psychiatry that helps stabilize acute symptoms of mood disorders and psychotic disorders. Dr. Manett has board certifications in both Adult Psychiatry and Addiction Psychiatry. He has an interest in the treatment of co-occurring substance use disorders and mood disorders. He is licensed by the DEA to prescribe buprenorphine for the treatment of opiate use disorders. He is also active in the teaching and training of medical students and residents at MUSC.
