Disabilities & Special Needs

Emerald Center is a private, nonprofit, governmental agency that serves people with various disabilities and special needs and their families in Greenwood, Abbeville, Edgefield, McCormick and Saluda counties in South Carolina. Emerald Center provides a range of services, such as infant stimulation, child development and adult vocational services. Additionally, its services include residential and respite care. Its child development services include training in cognitive language, self-help, socialization skills, and fine and gross motor. The organization offers services to persons with mental disabilities, autism, head and spinal cord injuries and other special disabilities. Emerald Center is located in Ladson, S.C.

The Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center offers psychiatric services that help individuals and families move toward optimal and independent functioning. It serves adults with serious and persistent mental illness and major and acute psychiatric concerns. The center also provides services to children and adolescents with serious emotional disturbances. The Charleston Dorchester Mental Health Center employs more than 400 staff members with clinical personnel located in schools, child abuse facilities, jails, homeless shelters, health centers and other sites. In addition to administrative staff, the center employs psychiatrists, social workers, psychologists, counselors and others who provide direct clinical services. Located in Summerville, S.C., the center is comprised of a variety of clinics and special programs.
