Dr. Angela Rodi is a native of sunny Clearwater, Florida, and is happy to call the mountains of the Carolinas her new home. She graduated from the Burnett Honors College at the University of Central Florida and continued her medical education as a UCF Knight at the UCF College of Medicine. Dr. Rodi received her OB/GYN residency training at Prisma Health-Upstate, where she earned the John V. Dacus Award for Excellence in Obstetrics and completed advanced training in robotic surgery. Dr. Rodi is board certified and is a fellow of the American Congress of Obstetrics and Gynecology. She and her husband, Stephen, enjoy doing all-things-outdoors with their four-legged hiking buddy, Zep.

Dr. Rapp graduated from Duke University in 1981 with a degree in BioMedical Engineering. He received his medical degree from Georgetown University in 1985, and then completed his postgraduate residency training in Phoenix. Upon completing his medical training, Dr. Rapp served the US Air Force for five years and then moved to Greenwood, SC, where he has practiced since 1995. In 2010, Dr. Rapp opened an office of Premier Surgical Services, PA in Aiken, offering bariatric surgery in that area as well. Throughout his practice experience, Dr. Rapp continues to expand his surgical knowledge through training and new technology. He completed a Laparoscopic Bariatric Surgery Preceptorship Program in 2004, and a Laparoscopic Adjustable Gastric Banding Surgeon's Training & Proctoring Program in 2006. Dr. Rapp was the first surgeon in South Carolina to perform many advanced robotic techniques during his procedures, including the use of Aesop robotics, and the completion of gallbladder removal and gastric procedures with full robotics. He was also the first in the Greenwood area to perform laparoscopic Roux-en-Y gastric bypass and adjustable gastric banding surgeries. Dr. Rapp is Board Certified as a Diplomat of the American Board of Surgery (ABS). He is also a Fellow of the American College of Surgery (ACS), a Fellow of the American Society of Metabolic & Bariatric Surgeons (ASMBS), and a Member of the Society of American Gastrointestinal Endoscopic Surgeons (SAGES).

Shanu Nikhil Kothari, MD

Shanu N. Kothari, MD, FACS, FASMBS, is a minimally invasive bariatric surgeon at Prisma Health in Greenville, South Carolina. Prior to joining Prisma Health, he worked at Gundersen Health System in La Crosse, Wisconsin where he established their bariatric surgery program and started their minimally invasive bariatric surgery and advanced GI fellowship. Dr. Kothari earned his Bachelor of Arts in biology and graduated magna cum laude from Indiana’s Anderson University, followed by a medical degree from the University of Illinois College of Medicine. He went on to complete a residency at Gundersen Lutheran Medical Foundation in Wisconsin and a fellowship in advanced laparoscopic surgery at the Medical College of Virginia. Dr. Kothari has held positions as an adjunct assistant professor at the University of Wisconsin School of Medicine and Public Health Clinic and the director of Gundersen Health System’s Minimally Invasive Bariatric Surgery and has served on numerous surgical boards and committees. He is a Professor of Surgery USC School of Medicine, Greenville. He is the past president for both the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery and the Southwestern Surgical Congress. He is also the incoming President of the Fellowship Council. His passion for research and surgical quality is evident with over 300 national presentations and lectures, published journal articles and editorial contributions. Dr. Kothari is currently serving as the Jean and H. Harlan Stone Chair of Surgery in the Upstate.
