There he was elected to the Alpha Omega Alpha Honor Society. He completed his internal medicine residency at the University of Pittsburgh Medical Center and completed a combined pulmonary and allergy/immunology fellowship at Duke University Medical Center.He served four years in the Air Force, as chief of pulmonary medicine at Andrews AFB. Following completion of his military service, he returned to central Pennsylvania and engaged in private practice from 1993 until 2015, when he became a full-time faculty member of the MUSC pulmonary division.
