Jean, a primary catalyst of the Charismatic Renewal, played a vital role in the transformation of twentieth-century Christianity through her experiences with the Baptism of the Holy Spirit. Together, the Willanses established the Society of Stephen, which became a regional fountainhead of the Renewal, particularly among Roman Catholics, and pioneered a ministry to drug addicts and gang members that gained international media attention.

Rick Willans, who passed away in 2020, was deeply involved in the Charismatic movement and worked alongside Jean as the editor of Trinity, an influential magazine dedicated to maintaining the 'fullness of the faith.' After their marriage, the couple was called to Asia, where they ministered in Indonesia, Taiwan, and Hong Kong, founding the Society of Stephen and continuing their impactful work. Upon returning to the United States, they based their ministry in Altadena, California, where they continued to bring countless individuals to Christ and promote the Baptism in the Holy Spirit.
