About North Smithfield School District The North Smithfield School Department is a public school district that serves the Town of North Smithfield, located about 15 miles from Providence in northwestern Rhode Island, bordering Massachusetts. North Smithfield is located in the northwest portion of the original territory of Smithfield. The town was incorporated in March 1871, and was at first named Slater. Sixteen days later its original name was changed to North Smithfield. North Smithfield was rural-agrarian in its beginnings. Lincoln High School offers education to more than 1,000 students in grades kindergarten through 12. The school offers various subjects in its curriculum, such as reading, writing, English, mathematics, science, social studies, foreign language, home economics, and computer and physical education. It also provides advanced courses in calculus, American history, statistics, political science and biology. The extracurricular activities offered by the school include visual and performing arts, chorus, dramatics, band, yearbook, newspaper, science Olympiad, and renaissance and blood drive clubs.
