1774 Armory St
East Greenwich, RI 02818

The Kentish Guards, formed in 1774 in East Greenwich, Rhode Island, are one of the oldest military organizations in the United States. Originally tasked with protecting the town and colony, they played significant roles in the American Revolutionary War, including participation in the Siege of Boston, and later served in various conflicts such as the War of 1812 and the American Civil War.

Today, the Kentish Guards operate as a ceremonial unit under the Centennial Legion of Historic Military Commands Inc., preserving their historic charter and independence. They are actively involved in local events, offer a Fife and Drum Corps, and maintain a historic armory built in 1843, recognized for its architectural significance and preservation of military heritage.
