Conanicut Battery
Conanicut Battery is a historic Revolutionary War fortification located on Conanicut Island near Jamestown, Rhode Island. Established in 1776, it was initially a Patriot stronghold before being captured and occupied by British forces, and later by French Marines, until its abandonment in 1781.
The site features earthworks and a commanding view of the West Passage, with remnants of its military significance evident from its past uses, including its role during World War I and II as part of Fort Getty. Today, Conanicut Battery is recognized for its historical importance and was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1972. Generated from the website
