The Oak Lawn Fire Company, established in 1906 by Emanuel E. Brazil and Earl Irons, originated in response to a devastating local barn fire. Initially operating from a repurposed barn on Wilbur Avenue, the company evolved over the years, incorporating as the Oak Lawn Fire Association in 1910 and later acquiring various pieces of firefighting apparatus, including a motorized fire engine in 1921.
