Annmary Brown Memorial
The Annmary Brown Memorial in Providence, RI, showcases European and American paintings spanning the 17th to 20th centuries, along with the Cyril and Harriet Mazansky British Sword Collection. Founded by General Rush C. Hawkins, the Memorial also houses personal mementos of the Brown family and features a mausoleum holding the remains of Annmary Brown and General Hawkins.
Designed by architect Norman Isham, the Memorial was originally built between 1903 and 1907 as a library, art gallery, and mausoleum. The Hawkins Art Collection on display reflects General Hawkins' preference for strongly representational paintings, featuring works by renowned artists such as Anthony Van Dyck, Peter Paul Rubens, and Giovanni Battista Tiepolo.
