The Wissahickon Valley Historical Society, founded in 1975 as a non-profit organization, is dedicated to preserving the history of Ambler, Whitpain, and Lower Gwynedd. Headquartered in the historic 1895 Public School, the Society focuses on educating the public about the local heritage, including significant buildings, artifacts, and folklore of the Wissahickon Valley region.

Among its notable attractions is the Franklinville School, a one-room schoolhouse dating back to 1858, which is the sole facility of its kind open to the public in Whitpain Township. The Society also features a library and museum that showcases local history through artifacts, photographs, and records reflecting the area's agricultural and industrial past.
