Upward Bound Program
The Upward Bound Programs at Penn State University are federally funded initiatives designed to support 369 students annually from nine targeted high schools across eight counties. These programs aim to enhance pre-college performance and facilitate higher education pursuits for students who demonstrate academic need and come from families without a college graduate.
In 2022, the Upward Bound Programs expanded by adding two new projects, Upward Bound Altoona and Upward Bound Clairton-McKeesport, joining existing programs that include Upward Bound, Upward Bound Math and Science, and Upward Bound Hazleton Reading. Funded through a grant totaling $1,882,008 annually from the U.S. Department of Education, these programs also collaborate with local organizations to further support their participants.
