UPMC- Biomedical Science Tower 1
UPMC's Biomedical Science Towers 1 and 2 are situated in the vibrant Oakland medical community of Pittsburgh, directly opposite the School of Medicine and the School of Dental Medicine. Constructed in 1990, these towers accommodate offices and laboratories for 21 departments and programs, including dedicated research space for the Thomas E. Starzl Transplantation Institute.
The first tower, now known as the Thomas E. Starzl Biomedical Science Tower, honors the legacy of the liver transplant pioneer who has been a significant figure at the University of Pittsburgh since 1981. These facilities play a crucial role in advancing medical research and education in the region.
