United Community Independence Programs

Hermitage House Youth Services, established in 1974, offers residential rehabilitation services for youths through group homes, supervised independent living and emergency shelters. The organization also offers Moving On, a nonresidential Crawford County independent living program. Hermitage House Youth Services is licensed and regulated by the Pennsylvania Department of Public Welfare. It supports various programs, including Adolescent Development and Preventative Treatment, Horses Assisting Learning through Effective Recreation and National Youth Program Using Minibikes. In addition, the organization conducts Seeking Together a New Direction, which is a chaplain program with weekly groups and opportunities for worship and spiritual development. It also provides a range of counseling and therapeutic intervention services. Hermitage House Youth Services is located in Cambridge Springs, Pa.

Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, Inc. was incorporated at a non-profit 501 C3 through a Model Cities Grant for the purpose of providing mental retardation services in the Turtle Creek Valley. A federal grant in 1980 established the organization as a community mental health center and services expanded to include outpatient, partial hospitalization, residential services and case management. Through the grant funding, individuals and families could receive mental health services regardless of their ability to pay. TCV MH/MR, Inc. expanded services to the Steel Valley communities in 1981 and established regionally Alternatives drug and alcohol treatment services. Funding from the state and federal government through a contract with Allegheny County Department of Human Services continues to allow the Agency to offer services to individuals and families who are uninsured using a sliding fee schedule with fees determined based on individual/family income. In 2005, Turtle Creek Valley MH/MR, Inc. celebrated 35 years of innovative services to the community. Today, the agency offers a full continuum of mental health, intellectual developmental disabilities and alcohol and other drug treatment programs.
