History
Owned and managed by Westmoreland Cultural Trust, the 1926 vaudeville-era venue now seating 1,369 has undergone several major phases of renovations and upgrades since 1990 with improvements to lighting and sound systems, seating, dressing rooms, our Megan Suite and Courtyard, and installation of air-conditioning and an elevator. French Renaissance decor, golden Grecian marble, Louis Grell murals, and original black and white tile flooring in the outer lobby and Mezzanine make The Palace Theatre the premiere entertainment destination in Westmoreland County, just 30 miles east of Pittsburgh. The venue opened as the Manos Theatre on September 2, 1926, built by a family of Greek candymakers to attract patrons to the adjacent Strand Sweet Shoppe. Warner Brothers owned the Manos from 1930-1973, then sold it to Cinemette Theatres of Pittsburgh. Owned by Carl Marinelli from 1977 until city leaders helped to facilitate its sale in 1990 to the entity now known as Westmoreland Cultural Trust.
