Our father, Bill Smith, started the family business on October 21,1946 after serving in the Navy. Originally the business was built around raising/slaughtering turkeys under contract. Shortly he found that there was more profit slaughtering/processing beef, hogs and lambs. As kids in the 1960s we were involved with the business in whatever ways we could. Our dad had the business accepted as a Federally Inspected slaughterhouse in 1973. In 1976 Craig joined his father in the business with Bruce joining in 1978. In 1979 we added a smokehouse to the operation so that we would have control over the sausage making and smoking process. As the number of local farms began to decline in the eighties we realized that the business would have to change over time. We started a small retail section in the Butcher shop, which kept growing until 1999 when we went full retail. The early 2000s saw us adding fish to the products available.
