Pittsburgh, PA 15206
Situated in the Shadyside neighborhood, Mellon Park is a must-see public space rich in history. The park is best known for the beautiful Walled Garden behind the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts building and the Phipps Garden Center. Mellon Park was the original estate of Richard Beatty Mellon, whose 60-room mansion was the largest house in Pittsburgh. In 1929, he chose landscape architects Vitale and Geiffert -- premier design firm of the Country House Era -- to develop the Walled Garden of his estate grounds. The property originally had been laid out in 1912 by noted Pittsburgh architects Alden and Harlow with subsequent work by the renowned Olmsted Brothers firm of Brookline, Massachusetts. The gardens have benefited over the years from the efforts of garden club volunteers and master gardeners in training. Find the Walled Garden behind the Pittsburgh Center for the Arts building and the Phipps Garden Center. Parking is available in the lot located on Shady Avenue.

This is a big beautiful park, perfect for a picnic or to just walk around in and admire the sculptures and all the beautiful flowers, truly a charming spot nestled in the busy-ness of the city
