The Degenstein Community Library in Sunbury, PA has a rich history of serving the community since its establishment in 1937 as the Sunbury Public Library. Over the years, it has evolved and expanded to meet the changing needs of the community, offering new formats, technologies, and services. With the support of the community, local and state governments, and various organizations, the library continues to provide dedicated community library service. In 2002, the library relocated to its current location on South Fifth Street, thanks to the generous contributions of Charles B. Degenstein and other donors. The library is committed to building on its mission and honoring those who came before, while embracing new opportunities to serve the community. Our library is located in a Carnegie built Library. The corner stone was laid in 1911. We have approximately 17, 000 books in our collection. This covers adult fiction & non fiction, children's fiction & non fiction, audio books and CD's, Movies in DVD formats, daily newspapers and magazines. We have 5 computers with public access DSL internet connections. We have a special room with PA state & local histories as well as early cemetery records for public use. Our newly remodeled children's area has new shelving, wonderful books, a children's play area with puzzles, toys, manipulative toys, puppets and a parenting section.
